Phantom Blade Zero Settings FAQ & Troubleshooting
1.Shader compilation will run the first time you launch the game. Please wait patiently until it finishes before entering the game. If the game is moved to the background during shader compilation, CPU priority will be lowered, which may increase compilation time.
2.To ensure the optimal gaming experience, it is recommended to use the game's recommended graphics settings.
【Settings (or "System" in-game)】-【Graphics】- Apply recommended graphics quality level - Apply changes.
3.To ensure the optimal audio experience, go to [Settings (or "System" in-game)] > [Audio] > "Playback Device" in the game, and select the playback device that matches your actual setup.
4.For PC players using a controller, we recommend connecting your controller via a USB cable that supports data transfer for the best possible experience. When the DualSense wireless controller is connected via Bluetooth, some advanced haptic feedback features may be limited.
5.When PC users experience the game with a DualSense wireless controller, if haptic feedback is missing or related options are unavailable, please check whether the audio device corresponding to the controller in Windows sound settings has been disabled. Some haptic feedback features rely on this audio device working properly, so please keep it enabled.
If you do not want audio to play through the controller, you can set another device as the default audio output device; there is no need to disable the audio device corresponding to the controller.
6.If PC users encounter an issue where HDR cannot be enabled in the settings, please confirm that the monitor supports HDR and that HDR has been enabled for the corresponding monitor in Windows under "Settings → System → Display". When using an AMD graphics card, if the HDR option in the game remains unavailable, please check the "10-bit Pixel Format" option in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and turn it off. This option is different from the monitor's 10-bit color depth setting, so please do not confuse the two. After making the adjustment, please restart the game.
About Preloading
Q: I've already completed the preload. Do I still need to download an update when the game officially unlocks?
Preload is only for preparing game files in advance. When the game officially unlocks (October 29, 10:00), there will be a day-one patch (around 5GB) that significantly improves ray tracing and path tracing performance, and fixes some bugs.
If you completed the preload earlier, you can install the additional patch update before launching the game. If you did not preload, the version you download directly will already be the latest version.
Please keep sufficient free disk space and watch for update prompts. You can only enter the game after completing the necessary verification and updates.
Q: What preparations should I make before downloading?
①Make sure the game is installed on an SSD. If possible, avoid installing it on your system drive (C: drive) to prevent system read/write operations from interfering with frame rate stability. (Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, go to the Performance tab, and check your disk properties.)
②Reserve at least 160 GB of available disk space;
③Update your graphics card driver to the latest version (see the next entry for details).
Q: Do I need to update my graphics driver? How do I update it?
①NVIDIA graphics cards: Update to the latest Game Ready driver. Driver version 617.42 is currently the most ideal driver version for *Phantom Blade Zero*. If you have already updated to a version later than 617.42, you can select the corresponding version from the recent versions list at the bottom of the driver interface to reinstall it (select clean installation), and wait for NVIDIA to release a new driver update (we believe they will release it very soon).
Visit the official website at https://www.nvidia.cn/drivers/ and download the NVIDIA APP. Open the NVIDIA APP, select "Drivers" from the left navigation bar, and check whether your driver needs an update. If an update is available, click Download and follow the installation instructions.
②AMD graphics cards: update to the latest version of Adrenalin;
Visit the official website at https://www.amd.com/zh-cn/support/download/drivers.html and download the Windows® 10/11 driver. Once opened, it will automatically detect your current graphics card version. If an update is available, click to download and install it.
Q: How much disk space should I reserve for the download?
The game is approximately 150GB in size. Additional temporary space is required for the download, as well as for subsequent extraction and verification processes:
①Ensure the target installation drive has at least 160GB of free space.
②Confirm that the target drive is an SSD (Solid State Drive);
③If you have insufficient storage space, free up space on the target drive or change the installation path, then try again. Insufficient storage space may cause download or installation failures.
Q: Can the game be installed on a mechanical hard drive?
①Must be installed on an SSD (Solid State Drive);
②You can right-click the menu bar or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, go to Performance, and check the disk properties to confirm.
③Try to avoid installing the game on your system drive (C: drive) to prevent system read/write operations from interfering with frame rate stability.
Q: What should I do if my download is slow, stuck, or fails?
①Check whether your network connection is working properly;
②Pause any other download tasks currently using bandwidth;
③Ensure the installation disk has sufficient free space (≥160GB);
④If your progress bar appears frozen, the client may be verifying, unpacking, or installing files. This process takes some time, and its speed depends on your disk performance.
⑤If you make no progress for an extended period or keep encountering errors, visit https://pbz.s-game.com/support/zh-CN/ to share your information and submit feedback.
Pre-order Bonus
Q: What are the pre-order bonuses? Can I still get them if I purchase the game after its release?
①Pre-order bonuses include the accessory "Cornucopia" (Mind Dust drop rate +10%) and the "Legacy" skin, which can be unlocked early by pre-ordering.
②Both items can be obtained through normal in-game progression. Purchasing them after the game's release will not affect your ability to obtain them in the end; the only difference is when they are unlocked.
③Exclusive Deluxe Edition content is identical whether purchased during the preload period or after launch.
Post-Launch Issues and Fixes
Q: The game fails to launch, or prompts that runtime components are missing. What should I do?
①Confirm that the game has been officially unlocked (after 10:00 on October 29) and complete the updates prompted by the client;
②Restart the client and your PC, then try again.
③Verify the integrity of game files (see the next item for the method);
④Follow the client or error message prompts to install or repair the required runtime components.
⑤Check whether your Windows system and graphics drivers meet the game's requirements;
⑥If the game still fails to launch → Go to https://pbz.s-game.com/support/zh-CN/ to submit your information and feedback.
Q: How do I verify the integrity of my game files?
①Steam: Right-click the game in your Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. Restart the game once the process is complete.
②Epic: Check via the local file verification option in the client.
③WeGame: Use the built-in game repair feature in the client to verify file integrity;
④TapTap PC: Use the game repair feature provided by the client to check file integrity.
Q: The game crashes, shows a black screen, or freezes. What should I do?
①Check whether the minimum system requirements (including the SSD requirement) are met;
②Restart your PC and the game client, and close any background programs you don't currently need.
③Check your graphics card driver and Windows system updates;
④If you are using any third-party plugins or tools, please disable them first to troubleshoot compatibility issues;
⑤Record the scenario where the issue occurs (startup/loading/specific gameplay scenario) and whether it can be reproduced, then visit https://pbz.s-game.com/support/zh-CN/ to provide feedback with this information.
Q: The frame rate is low and the game runs poorly. How can I adjust the settings?
①Confirm that the game is installed on an SSD and your system meets the minimum requirements;
②Prioritize the officially recommended graphics preset, then fine-tune settings based on your actual experience;
③You can try turning off ray tracing, lowering the resolution or overall graphics quality preset, and adjusting options such as shadows and effects appropriately;
④Close background programs that consume significant resources;
⑤NVIDIA graphics cards support DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution / Multi Frame Generation to boost frame rates;
Q: How do I enable ray tracing / DLSS?
①The PC launch version supports ray tracing (reflections/shadows/caustics) and DLSS 4.5 (super resolution and multi-frame generation), which can be enabled in the game's graphics settings based on your GPU.
Nvidia's recommended GPU configuration for enabling ray tracing is:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB
Resolution: 1080p / 60 FPS (with super-resolution reconstruction enabled)
The GPU configurations that support path tracing are as follows:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16GB
Resolution: 2160p / 60 FPS (with super-resolution reconstruction enabled)
②If the frame rate is still too low, you can turn off ray tracing or enable DLSS to balance visual quality and performance;
③The PS5 version natively supports PS5 Pro enhancements; if Performance/Quality mode options are available, you can switch between them as needed.
Q: Why does a small patch still require so much additional disk space?
The size of a patch download is not the same as the free space required during the update: while updating, the client may need to temporarily store files and verify, replace, or rebuild existing game files, which can require more space than the patch itself. Please free up space as prompted by the client before continuing the update.
Support & Feedback
Q: None of the above steps resolved the issue. How can I submit feedback?
Note down the key details of the issue and the scenario in which it occurs (startup / loading / a specific gameplay scenario), then submit your feedback at official website - support page.
Q: What diagnostic information should I include in my feedback?
①A description of the issue, when it occurred, and the steps you took;
②Screenshots of any error messages or a screen recording of the problem;
③Your operating system version and CPU / GPU / RAM specifications;
④Your graphics driver version (check it in NVIDIA App / AMD Software);
⑤Your client version and game version;
⑥Optional: Press Win+R, type 'dxdiag' to generate a diagnostic report (save it and attach it to your feedback), which helps us quickly identify hardware-related issues.
